What’s your bird seed?

Do you remember when you were a kid going to the park and how you would see birds gathered around somebody who had their hand out feeding them? And as soon as you went chasing the birds to catch them, they would fly away?

What you probably didn’t realise, is who the birds came to voluntarily – the one who just sat there with his hand out giving birdseed.

You see, I find this a beautiful & incredibly accurate metaphor for exactly what a lot of businesses are doing – especially those in the service sector.

They chase clients. The fact is – chasing takes a lot of energy and it’s not the most effective way in winning someone over. You need to make them come to you instead.

What do you do instead?

You offer some great bird seed – something of value that you know would truly help your potential clients. So what could your bird seed be?
